  • May 16, 1975 - USS Coral Sea is called in to support the rescue mission of the crew the SS Mayaguez after it was seized by Cambodian gunboats and escorted to Koh Tang Island.
  • May 16, 1969 - Captain Samuel G. Gorsline Jr. assumes command of the USS Coral Sea.
